My name is Bojan Komšić. I was born on an April night in Sarajevo in 1991. A few days later, I arrived in my family home in Kreševo, a small town in central Bosnia. Kreševo lies in a ravine surrounded by forests and mountains. Even as a boy I loved wandering these places, discovering mountain creeks and glades, conquering hill tops that seemed as high as the Alps at the time, although they were just average Bosnian hills.
Even at this point I tried to capture what I saw, to forever seal in time that moment of discovering some new forest, a river, or a mountain top. And I would manage to do this indeed, whenever I had the chance to “swipe” our old family analog Canon camera. Afterwards I would sneak out of the house to develop that roll of film, so eager to see the results of my first work. Some years later, my mother bought me a small digital camera which from then on always had its place in my backpack, becoming my faithful companion on all my future journeys.
I moved to Sarajevo in 2010 when I enrolled at a university, and I have been living there ever since. My diploma says that I am a lawyer by profession, but I am first and foremost a photographer. This is the greatest passion that I have, and it cannot be replaced nor surpassed by any other profession.
I am a regular member of the teams that organize two photography and film festivals. One is held in Kreševo, my home town (3fok – Outdoor Photo and Film Festival) and the other one takes place in Sarajevo (Balkan Photo Fest). I have been using DSLR cameras since 2012, which is approximately the time when I started doing commercial photography. Landscape photography still remains my favorite genre, although I have gained plenty of experience in many other fields of this profession, including video.
I am fully devoted to each task that is presented to me, and all the work that I take on is done responsibly and professionally. This is partly a reflection of my great love for what I do. For me, this is more than work itself. For me, photography is a way of life.
